FEI statement regarding Hickstead's passing in Verona

The fourth leg of the 2001/12 Rolex FEI World Cup series at Verona, Italy, was stopped today following the sudden death of the stallion Hickstead, ridden by reigning Olympic champion and world number one Eric Lamaze of Canada.

Double Olympic champion Pierre Jonquere d'Oriola dies aged 91

Pierre Jonqueres d'Oriola won teo gold medals
France's double Olympic champion Pierre Jonqueres d'Oriola passed away at his home in the Pyrenees on Tuesday, 19 July 2011. He was aged 91.

Born on 1 February 1920, d'Oriola won individual gold for show jumping at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki riding Ali Baba. This was the second Olympic medal for the d'Oriola family in Helsinki. Only six days earlier his cousin Christian d’Oriola had won gold for fencing.

Double Olympic gold medal winner For Pleasure dies

Double Olympic and European team gold-medal winner For Pleasure died this morning at the age of 25.

The Hanoverian stallion won team gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics with Germany's Lars Nieberg and in 1999 he joined Lars' fellow countryman Marcus Ehning.

Caretino dies aged 28

Holsteiner sire Caretino has been put to sleep aged 28 years, just three months before his 29th birthday.

The son of Caletto II had been unwell for over a week and, despite efforts to help him, he did not show signs of recovery.

Joli Coeur passes away

Joli Coeur, the great partner of Germany's Franke Sloothaak, has been put to sleep following an incident of colic. He was 25 years old.

Sadly, Walter Taylor passed away last week after a brave battle against cancer. His funeral takes place at 1.00pm on Thursday, 4 November 2010 at St Mary’s Church, Staveley, Cartmel, Cumbria, LA12 8NJ.
