Double Olympic gold medal winner For Pleasure dies

Double Olympic and European team gold-medal winner For Pleasure died this morning at the age of 25.

The Hanoverian stallion won team gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics with Germany's Lars Nieberg and in 1999 he joined Lars' fellow countryman Marcus Ehning.

Together, Marcus and For Pleasure won team gold at the 1999 Hickstead European championships, the 2003 Donaueschingen Europeans and 2000 Atlanta Olympics.

After earning almost E2,000,000, he was retired to stud at Marcus's yard in 2006 aged 20.

The following statement was put on Marcus' website today.

"With deep regret we have to announce that this morning around 9 am the 25-year-old For Pleasure died at home in the field. He was in the best of health and for years he enjoyed going outside with his pony friend Max. We are grateful to have had such an exceptional stallion in our barn for such a long time and will never forget him."
