Cumano to be retired at Aachen

Cumano, who helped Belgium's Jos Lansink secure the 2006 World Championship will be retired at Aachen, the venue which hosted that year's World Equestrian Games, on Saturday night (16 July 2011).

"He is an incredible fighter, he has never let me down," Jos told the Aachen press team. "He has amazing jumping potential and competed at the most difficult jumping tournaments in the world.“

The grey stallion, a son of Cassini I, does have wasn't always so obliging.

"He wanted to be the boss," said Jos. "But he quickly accepted the fact that I am the boss in the ring and he always fought for me with his whole heart."

Cumano, who was originally ridden by Germany's Franke Sloothaak, claimed the silver medal at the European Championships in Mannheim in 2007 and won the Grand Prix in Calgary in 2004 and narrowly missed winning a medal at the European Championships in San Patrignano, finishing fourth.

Cumano, who is now 18 years old, will now exclusively be used for breeding purposes.
