Nick Skelton and Big Star win BS Performance of the Month

From BS

Nick Skelton from Alcester, Warwickshire, and Big Star’s victory at the Wellington Equestrian Festival in Florida, USA, last month has been voted British Showjumping's Performance of the Month for January.

Nick and Beverley Widdowson’s eight-year-old bay stallion Big Star were one of only three combinations from the 37 to jump clear over the first round course. The pairing produced another clear in the jump-off, stopping the clock over three seconds quicker than their nearest rivals.

The Performance of the Month Award is an amalgamation of the former Show Jumper and Owner of the Month Awards, and recognises the achievements of riders, horses and owners, too.

"It gives me great pleasure to award the January Performance of the Month to Big Star, Beverley Widdowson and Nick Skelton, for their fantastic win in the Wellington Grand Prix," said Clare Whitaker, Chairman of British Showjumping’s International Committee. "My congratulations go to them and their hard working Team."

Patrick Riley of Zamar TTT, sponsors of the Performance Award, added: "A top class performance by Nick and Big Star has earned them the Performance Award for January 2011. Congratulations to Beverley Widdowson and the team who have had a fantastic start to the year."
