Tim Page headed the first qualifier for the Team Murka and World Class Programme Under 23 British championship final with Trevor Sturman's Quentin Tarantino. The class was held at the Solihull Riding Club Elite Show (Development Classic Circuit Show) on Friday, 1 October 2010.
The competition, which is open to riders aged 23 years or under, attracted 41 entries and the course was built by David Cole.
"David built a technical course that was up to height and tested the accuracy of the riders and the scope of the horses,” said Corrine Bracken, junior and young rider chef d’equipe. .
Only four riders went clear: Laura Mantel (Touplesse), Joe Clayton (Mr Darcy V), Tim Page (Quentin Tarantino) and Sam Hutton (Valentino VII). But five were required for the jump-off, so Pippa Allen (Amira II), the fastest four faulter of five from the first round joined them.
World Class Development rider Tim took the top spot with another clear in 40.25 seconds, with fellow WCD rider Joe also clear in 43.46 seconds to take second. One down for Laura left her in third, ahead of Sam, who also gained four faults, while Pippa retired.
As part of its sponsorship, Team Murka and the World Class Development Programme is funding the first place prize money of £300 at the qualifying competitions, as well as training vouchers, which are awarded to the first six prize-winning riders currently eligible for British team selection. Abbie Squires was the sixth placed rider to receive them here.
