After three days of competition at Arena UK, Paul Barker and Sam Hutton's consistent performances on Temple Ryefield and Astral 57 gained them places in the international classes at this year's Horse of the Year Show (6-10 October). Both were joint top of the leader board on 49 points out of a maximum 60.
Neither had won any of the three legs outright, but the format, run using a point for places leagues throughout the competition, favours consistency. Paul qualified with Temple Ryefield at this show last year, while Sam will be competing for the first time in Birmingham's International classes.
Philip Spivey won the first day's jump-off class with Tracey Forrest's Romanov II, James Fisher topped the speed leg on Lowriver Queen Z and Louise Whitaker headed the final day's grand prix with Rostaar.
