Venezuelan Pablo Barrios edged out 10 others in the jump-off of the ATCO Structures and Logistics to claim his second class of this year's Spruce Meadows Masters meeting with G&C Lagran.
Five combinations went double clear and Pablo beat home rider Yann Cadele (Game Ready) by 0.07 seconds.
"I tried to go fast," said Pablo. "You never expect to win when you are competing against so many good riders."
With so much success at this week Barrios is looking forward to WEG later this month.
"I can’t wait to go to the World Equestrian Games and see what happens," he said.
The CANA Cup was a hard battled competition, with five of the 31 starters going clear over Venezuelan Leopoldo Palacios's first-round course.
Dutch rider Gerco Schroder and his 13-year-old Bayern stallion Eurocommerce Pennsylvania set the early time to beat of 38.75 seconds. He wasn’t challenged until the USA's ever competitive Beezie Madden came into the ring aboard Coral Reef Via Volo, her 12-year-old Belgian warmblood mare.
She pressed her mare to cross the finish line a touch ahead of Schroder in 38.22 seconds.
"She has a lot of blood," said Meezie of the mare. "She’s careful and wants to do the job, she works for you not against you."
