Horse Sport Ireland announces its selections for Lanaken

Horse Sport Ireland has announced the horse and rider combinations selected to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook at the 2010 World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses, which runs from 23-26 September in Lanaken, Belgium.


A total of 15 horses (five five-year-olds, five six-year-olds and five seven-year-olds) will travel to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook at the championships. The team, in alphabetical order, is:

Five-year-olds:
Cappanaleigh Cruise and Greg Broderick
Cruising Lux and Peter Smyth
Interpreter and James Hogg
Isobelle Argentina and Daniel Coyle
Mullentine Loughgall and Captain David O’Brien

Six-year-olds:
Cuffesgrange Lux Good and David Blake
NLS Coole Al Clover and Clem McMahon
Oldtown KC and Trevor Breen
Rincarina and Greg Broderick
Ringwood Glen and Captain David O’Brien

Seven-year-olds:
Ballypatrick Mystique and Greg Broderick
Beer Hunter and Trevor Breen
Drumiller Lough and Captain David O’Brien
Victoria Rose and Peter Smyth
Wilywonty and Clem McMahon

In addition, two reserves have been selected in each age category, should any of the team horses be unable to travel.

They are:
Five-year-olds:
First reserve – Electric Feel and Alan O’Regan
Second reserve – BP Blondey and Greg Broderick

Six-year-olds:
First reserve – I’m One Cool Cookie and John McGuinness
Second reserve – Special Lux and Stephen Egan

Seven-year-olds:
First reserve – Corrib House and Peter Smyth
Second reserve – Independant Sambo and Antonia De Burgh

Chef d’equipe Comdt John Ledingham said: "The World Breeding Championships at Lanaken are the pinnacle of young horse show jumping each year. The world’s top studbooks line out for four days of top-class competition and the standard is extremely high. In 2009, Drumiller Lough and Capt David O’Brien were silver medallists and it would be great to repeat that performance in 2010."
