Colonel Ned Campion has been appointed by Horse Sport Ireland as chef de mission for the Irish squads at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, which begin in Kentucky, USA, later this month.

Colonel Campion, a former Officer Commanding of the Army Equitation School, and a show jumping competitor at the Mexico City Olympics in 1968, went on to act as either Irish chef de mission or show jumping chef d'equipe at four Olympic Games (Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney and Athens) and at two World Equestrian Games (Stockholm and The Hague).

Horse Sport Ireland CEO Damian McDonald said that Horse Sport Ireland was delighted that Colonel Campion had accepted the position as Ireland's chef de mission at the World Equestrian Games.

"Ned Campion is an outstanding ambassador for Irish equestrian sport and he is known all over the world," he said. "He is a regular visitor to Kentucky where his son Ted lives and he knows all the people there, which is a huge bonus. Ned is universally respected and Ireland could not have a better chef de mission."
