Fresh Direct Corlato is in foal

Tim Stockdale’s Olympic showjumping mare Fresh Direct Corlato has passed her 28-day pregnancy scan and is carrying a foal sired by the Quainton Stud's Quainton Quirifino.

John Bosher's Fresh Direct Colato conceived on the first attempt with Quainton Quirifino via artificial insemination in August.

"We are very excited to have 'Ruby' in foal to Quirifino," said John. "We are so grateful to Quainton Stud for doing such a great job. They have been very professional to deal with and the whole experience has been lovely."

Emma Phillips, Quainton Stud and Quainton Quirifino’s owner added: "We were thrilled when John rang to ask about using Quirifino, John said he knew the stallion well and had seen him jumping with Ben Maher.

"He was impressed by Quirifino’s big bold, scopey jump and calm disposition. John thought the two horses would really compliment each other. I have seen Corlato jump with Tim Stockdale at the Olympics and European Championships and know what an amazing mare she is, in my opinion this is the highest compliment and endorsement of our stud and stallions we could have received.”

Corlato unexpectedly required fresh semen when Quirifino was away competing in the Netherlands. She had to be inseminated within 24 hours otherwise she would have missed her chance to conceive during that cycle.

For a while it didn’t seem possible as Quirifino was at a CSI***** competition where horses are not permitted to leave the showground. After some frantic calls, Quainton Stud finally managed to locate a driver that could collect Quirifino and drive him through the night back to the stud just in time to perform his stud duties.
