Hickstead is known for showcasing the talents of the best riders of the world, but grassroots competitors will have the chance to compete at the famous West Sussex venue during the All England Jumping Championships (8-11 September 2011). This new national show has classes for all levels, with height classes starting from 1m, amateur finals at 1.10m and 1.20m level, going up to a Grand Prix with a £6,000 prize fund.
The Bunn family, the owners of Hickstead, are keen supporters of British breeding and the All England Jumping Championships include age classes for four, five, six and seven year olds, plus a seven- and eight-year-old Horse of the Year Show qualifier.
"This show will give younger horses a chance to gain invaluable experience of competing at Hickstead," explained show director Lizzie Bunn.
Main ring qualification
Riders will also have the chance to qualify for the finals of their classes, which will be held in the main ring.
"The top 30 horses in each section will go forward to the finals of each class, giving many more riders the chance to ride in our International Arena," Lizzie said.
The main arena was completely renovated for the 2011 season, at a cost of £500,000, which has allowed the Bunn family to add the new national show to Hickstead’s fixture list.
The new arena offers all-weather standard going on a turf surface and was met with widespread approval from riders following the two international shows. The show experienced several heavy showers during the Derby meeting as well as soaring temperatures during the Longines Royal International, but the going remained very good throughout.
Entertainment
Hickstead is known for its excellent after-show parties and the All England Jumping Championships will be no different with a choice of bars and restaurants, plus a full entertainment programme including live music and DJs, to entertain competitors during the evenings.
There will also be a select number of tradestands and admission is free – making the All England Jumping Championships a great day out.
Entries close on 12 August, and online entries can be made on the competitor zone at www.hickstead.co.uk
