Brazil's Alvaro de Miranda was the only rider from the Bordeaux World Cup qualifier jump-off to also make the jump-off of the show's Land Rover Grand Prix on Sunday, 6 February. And he ended up behind the wheel of a new 4 X 4.

“This was no less difficult than yesterday's World Cup qualifier if you consider the number of mistakes made in the final [seven out of 35 riders made the jump-off]," said Alvaro. "Yesterday [in the World Cup qualifier], my horse could not win because the jump-off was too winding, but the course today was more convenient for him and it worked.

It was still not self-evident that I was going to be faster than Christian Ahlmann. AD Asleigh Drossel is a racy horse.”

Alvaro “Doda” de Miranda was pleased to enter Brazil in the register of this Grand Prix. Last year, he was third, behind Germany's Marcus Ehning and Frabce's Roger-Yves Bost, but this year the podium was reshuffled. The German exponent was Christian Ahlmann (Lorenzo) and the French representative was Philippe Rozier with Randgraaf.

Christian wasn't planning on coming to Bordeaux. He was been on his way to another competition when Germany's national trainer called to inform him that there was an open place after Marcus Ehning’s withdrawn.

“When someone calls and tells you to come to Bordeaux, you don’t have to think twice," said Christian. "I turned on my heels with the horses I had in my truck and headed in the direction of Bordeaux. I don't regret the detour.”
