Inaugural British Stallion Showcase just two weeks away

A new event showing off British-based or owned graded sport horse and pony sires will take place at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire, from 5-6 February 2011.

Stallion Showcase GB has been organised by the Brendon Stud's Shirley, Valerie and Caraleen Light, together with Arundel Equine Hospital's Edward Lyall.

"The showcase is something that came about from several conversations last year between breeders and friends," said Shirley. "[We will provide] a venue that is public friendly, with good facilities for the stallions, and where mare owners can see numerous stallions in one go, being ridden or in hand if they are retired. Also, the stallions can be seen up close in the stables for conformation and temperament assessment. It will also offer the ideal chance to speak to owners and riders. Stallion owners have been invited to also present progeny."

Over 50 of Britain's top stallions have been entered in the showcase and are being ridden by world class riders such as Amy Stovold, John Whitaker, JP Sheffield, Robert Whitaker, Shane Breen and William Funnell. Show jumping and eventing stallions will be shown on the Saturday, 5 February and dressage stallions will be on show on Sunday, 6 February, together with some of the previous day's stallions.

On Saturday, William and Pippa Funnell will be giving a demonstration while Fiona Bigwood, riding her WEG superstar Wie Atlantico will be giving a demo on Sunday. Talks by vets and nutritionists will be giving on both days.

Tickets cost £10 per day or £16 for both days and can be bought online or on the day, if not sold out.

Trade stands are also attending, which will be set up inside the arena.
