Qualified riders for Team Murka/World Class Programme under-23 final confirmed

From BS

Twenty-four of the brightest young names in show jumping will compete in the Team Murka and World Class Programme Under-23 British Championship at the London International Horse Show Olympia on Saturday, 18 December 2010.

After three qualifying competitions the top 16 riders, based on league points accumulated throughout the qualifying series are joined by two of the possible five horse and rider combinations from the 2010 European British Young Rider Team, who automatically qualified. In addition, four of the possible top six horse and rider combinations, eligible for British Team selection, come forward from the 2010 British Open World Class Development Championship, together with two riders who have been awarded wild cards.

Harriet Nuttall topped the league point’s table after winning the final qualifying competition at Addington Equestrian Centre and a sixth place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre, with Abbie Squires second, and Tim Page and George Whitaker joint third.

With a prize fund of £10,000 for the Championship and training vouchers, ranging from £800 to to £200, for the top eight placed riders, competing in this class is of considerable value to these young riders.

An additional prize in the Championship is a style prize, which will be judged during the first round of the competition by two international show jumping riders. The winner will receive a voucher to the value of £1,500 towards the purchase of a saddle for use in conjunction with the World Class Programme Master Saddler and the Pliance System.

Will Connell, World Class Performance Director says: "I am delighted that Team Murka has been associated with the under-23 British Championship as I know that they are committed to pursing excellence in show jumping and have a keen awareness to identify and encourage talented athletes, which is the philosophy of the World Class Equestrian Programme."
