George Whitaker dominated the second qualifying competition for the Team Murka and The World Class Programme Under-23 British Championship which was held at Aintree International Equestrian Centre on Saturday, 6 November 2010.
The competition attracted 40 entries. Di Lampard, Consultant Head of Training for British Show Jumping watched the class.
"I think the concept of this competition is excellent and the standard or riding is improving all the time," she said. "[Course designer) Sue Barrett built an encouraging first round resulting in 16 clears. However, the jump-off was big and quite a challenge, which required good riding and there were some well-ridden second rounds."
George Whitaker took the top two spots, winning with Carnaval Path in a jump-off time of 39.47 seconds and taking second place with Tubana in 41.68 seconds. Joe Davison (Egano Star) was third.
The remaining qualifier will be held at Addington Equestrian Centre on 26 November 2010 and will determine the libe up for the final at Olympia.
World Class Development rider Tim Page and George Whitaker jointly head the league table on 40 points each, followed by Joseph Davison in third place on 36.
As part of its sponsorship, Team Murka and the World Class Development Programme is funding the first place prize money of £300 at the qualifying competitions, as well as training vouchers, which are awarded to the first six prize-winning riders currently eligible for British Team selection.
A total of 24 riders will qualify for the final at Olympia. The top 11 horse and rider combinations from the three qualifying competitions, based on league points accumulated, will contest the championship. Points will only be awarded to riders who are eligible for British Team selection.
In addition, the five horse and rider combinations from the 2010 British Young Rider Team will automatically qualify, together with the top six horse and rider combinations from the 2010 British Open World Class Development Championship who are currently eligible for British Team selection.
If any of these riders wish to jump a different horse in the final, they will be required to go through the qualifying process. Two further riders will be awarded wild cards to make up the final line up.
