Germany's Ludger Beerbaum withdraws from WEG selection

Germany's Ludger Beerbaum has decided against riding in this year's World Equestrian Games just one day after his country's longlist was announced.

Ludger, 47, believes his longlisted ride Gotha, a nine-year-old mare, is not experienced enough for WEG, despite having much success during the last winter season during which the pair finished second in the Geneva World Cup final.

According to horseweb.de Ludger had planned to stop competing after the London Olympics in 2012, but the inividual World title is the only title which has so far eluded him. With the next World Equestrian Games taking place in 2014, Gotha would be at her best age to perform. According to Ludger, all future plans are open now.
